The club initially consisted of staff from the local Waitrose grocery store who competed on a friendly basis in the late 1980's as 'Waitrose Wallingford' against local sides and other Waitrose stores.
In 1990 the club renamed to Wallingford Exiles F.C, affiliated to the Berks Bucks F.A and joined the Brakspears Sunday Friendly League. The league consisted of a single division of around 10 teams from the Wallingford/Henley area. Exiles competed successfully in this league for 3 seasons.
In 1993 the Brakspears League folded and Exiles joined the Upper Thames Valley League in Division 4.
Exiles won their first 10 games in succession and looked a fair bet to win the league. However, a poor second half to the season saw them drop to forth place, but was still enough to gain promotion.
In season 2006/2007 the team managed by Paul Birch and captain Dave Chesseman gained promotion to Division 2 by finishing second in 3B.
At the beginning on the 2007/2008 season the club won the U.T.V.L Hedley Toms/Michael Brown Memorial Trophy.
